Our Mission

Folklore Salon & Barber builds community by facilitating visibility, artistic expression, and togetherness. We are an intentional space that celebrates the Los Angeles LGBTQ community experience by investing in its history and future. Folklore’s commitment to community goes beyond hair-care services by actively showcasing and partnering with local Queer artists, businesses, and social justice organizations and investing in our team’s education and personal development. We value and encourage the contribution of our allies in the upholding of this mission statement.

Our staff is empowered to make decisions that best serve our guests free of bureaucracy.

We understand that sometimes ‘life happens’ and things come up that may require cancelling or rescheduling a hair appointment. You were towed because you didn’t understand all 12 parking signs. You passed out in Hot Yoga (again). Your energy healer had a last minute opening. We do empathize with you, but considering the limited amount of time slots available per week, it is best that we have at least 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule any appointment. A cancellation with less than a 24 hour notice is subject to a cancellation fee. The fee will be 50% of the scheduled service. This applies to all services except color which requires a 72 hour advance cancellation notice.

We require a 72 hr advance notice to reschedule and cancel your color service. (These services are lengthy) Anything less than 72 hours will result in a fee of 50% of the original service booked.

We require a free consultation before you make a color appointment. It’s done remotely (FaceTime, Zoom or Skype). You can book this online or feel free to give us a call.

…are not cool. When you don’t show up for your appointment, the stylist goes home empty handed for the time lost. Failure to show up for a scheduled appointment without a notice via an email, call or text gives us the permission to charge 100% of the scheduled service and the possibility of the stylist refusing any future services. Your time is money – so is ours.

A heads-up is always appreciated and anything under 10 minutes is ok. Anything beyond 10 -15 minutes may end up having to be rescheduled. It is an inconvenience to us and our other guests who have appointments booked with us throughout the day. (Think of the children!) We understand SoCal. Expect ‘unexpected’ traffic and plan ahead for parking (we empathize with you on the parking). We just want to make sure you get the time you deserve and the attention to detail in the work we provide for you.

We are no longer requiring clients to wear masks, but they are recommended for the health and safety of others as well as the staff. We always have masks available upon request at the front desk! If you are immunocompromised, please let us know and we will accommodate by ensuring all staff and clients wear a mask during your appointment.

Other clients may bring their ESA into the salon during their appointments, if you have a severe dog allergy and are concerned please give us a call to confirm whether a dog is present at the salon.
